January is Birth Defects Awareness Month, a call to action for socialworkers to share a key message: for a healthy pregnancy, it is safest to avoid alcohol, smoking, and other recreational drugs. Substance use during pregnancy can lead to poor outcomes. The safest pathway is to avoid any type of substance use during pregnancy.

The partnership aims to enhance the professional development of socialworkers and child protection practitioners in Thailand. By Sue Coyle Self-care is an often-discussed topic among socialworkers, the organizations that employ them, and the profession as a whole—and for good reason. Social work is a challenging career choice in myriad ways. Evidence of this exists in the rates of both turnover and burnout throughout social work.
However, RJ can also be understood as a trauma-informed mental health intervention allowing perpetrators, who have frequently been victims of past trauma, to regain a sense of voice and control, and to maintain social connection within their community. She already had an undergraduate and master’s degree in business administration but spoke to local universities about entry requirements for social work courses.
