Every patient discharged from a mental healthcare setting would be given the opportunity to rate, comment on and provide constructive feedback on the treatment they had received while in hospital. This would be carried out via an interview by an independent mental health advocate (IMHA) within 30 days of discharge.

Although most mobile psychiatric emergency cases have involved mentally high functioning patients, I’ve been most invigorated from helping the most impaired patients, usually suffering from psychosis. Third, it will no longer be possible to detain a person with a learning disability or an autistic person under section 3 unless they have a co-occurring “psychiatric disorder” that warrants hospital treatment. The bill also places care (education) and treatment reviews (C(E)TRs) on a statutory footing.
