I reflect on mental health in the state of my community, my city and my country, and I wonder if anything has happened this month that could lead to substantial change. By Tim Spencer-Lane The Mental Health Bill , which seeks to reform the Mental Health Act 1983 (MHA) to strengthen the voice of the patient and ensure that that detention is only used when necessary, received its third reading in the House of Lords on 23 April 2025. The amendment was passed by 218 to 143 votes.
