110% rise in number of asylum-seeking children in unregulated settings from 2021-23, data shows

There was a 110% rise in the number of unaccompanied asylum-seeking children placed in unregulated settings from 2021-23, annual statistics on the care system have shown. The number placed in independent or semi-independent settings more than doubled, from 2,120 to 4,450. This outstripped, proportionately, the 76% increase in the number of unaccompanied children, from 4,150 to 7,290, over the same period.

10% pay rise for thousands of care workers as government announces national living wage rise

Many thousands of care workers in England will get a 10% pay rise next April after the government decided to increase its national living wage (NLW) from £10.42 to £11.44 an hour. The NLW will also be applied to staff aged 21 and 22, raising their wage floor from the national minimum wage (NMW), which is currently worth £10.18 an hour. As of March 2023, about 140,000 care workers in the independent sector in England (17% of the total) earned the then NLW of £9.50, according to Skills for Care

When The Trauma is Extreme

I asked. She told. She spoke about her experiences with things unimaginable to most. She said that previous therapists had said her background was the most extreme they have ever heard. Hearing that, my concern was that she worried about overwhelming the therapists. I don’t know. They may have been.
