Rishi Sunak has called a general election for 4 July. The prime minister made the announcement in a statement in Downing Street today, firing the starting gun on a six-week campaign. The news comes with the Labour Party roughly 20 percentage points ahead in the polls (source: BBC), strongly suggesting they will end 14 years of Conservative rule on polling day.

It’s called Sirona Therapeutic Horsemanship , and it works by bringing them together with rescued horses. The horses, like many of the children, arrive traumatised, anxious and frightened.

My wife, Liz Wolstenholme, who has died of cancer aged 78, combined family life with a career in health and social care, mainly in Yorkshire. Liz’s achievements came from being a quiet, firm and inspirational leader who worked behind the scenes to unite disparate factions of the organisations in which she was employed. She placed collaboration ahead of competition and was always on the side of the underdog.

It was one of those showers that felt extra good. Plenty of hot water. Nice stream. It flowed over me. It came after this mornings kayak ride. The shower wasn’t necessary from sweating. It was because when I first got into the kayak, I wasn’t centered. I bailed. Our house backs onto a little waterway. It’s actually a man-made lagoon that was dug somewhere around the 1920s.

Legislation to end profit-making from the provision of children’s care placements in Wales has been published. The Health and Social Care (Wales) Bill would permit only not-for-profit organisations and councils from providing fostering, children’s home or secure accommodation placements. The reform would make Wales the first UK country to ban profit-making from both fostering and residential services.

An average of 22 adolescents (14 to 18 years old) died from drug overdoses in the U.S. each week in 2022. That makes drug overdoses and poisonings the third leading cause of pediatric deaths in the nation (behind gun injuries and motor vehicle accidents).
