Ontario high school students are required to provide 40 hours of community service. I remember a friend of mine who worked for a community agency telling me that parents would ask him to sign a form indicating their kid had done so… when they hadn’t done so. Other parents would do their kids work of finding them a placement to do their time… as if it was a jail sentence.

Some simply lack capacity for self-sufficiency. What of these folks? We can leave them to themselves. Swim or drown. Few will want to drown. They may live a subsistence life, perhaps on the streets, perhaps scrounging, doing anything necessary to survive.

We still do many outdoor activities, but have kept up our weight lifting at the gym as well. We celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary, and our 71st birthdays this summer.
