The amendment, therefore, sought to limit the duration of CTOs to 12 months and provide that they can only be extended with the agreement of a second psychiatrist and following consultation with the patient and others. This would be carried out via an interview by an independent mental health advocate (IMHA) within 30 days of discharge.
