Just know that a kid’s need to be loved, admired, cared for by anyone other than their parents is often tied to the degree to which they are disconnected from their parents. That means these kids are more vulnerable to exploitation. Your connection to your kids is more protective of them than locking them up, taking away their phone, punishing them for misdeeds.

Last month, the Baltimore Banner reported on an alarming rise in the number of child fatalities due to maltreatment in Maryland, as shown by a federal report. The number of child abuse and neglect deaths reported by Maryland to the federal Childrens Bureau was 83 for Fiscal Year 2023, up from 27 a decade before, a rate higher than any state but Mississippi.
To my social work and therapist colleagues: Typically after my first meeting with people I serve, I would ask three questions: 1) What are your takeaways from our meeting? 2) What was your experience of me? 3) Is there anything I could have done differently to improve your experience? Those questions form a quick debrief. A debrief is about reflecting on the experience as opposed to discussing the content.

Its about Colorados love affair with the worst form of care for children group homes and institutions. At the time, we noted that, as of 2021, Colorado was using them at a rate 33% above the national average. By 2022, use of group homes had fallen, but Colorado was using the worst of the worst, institutions at a rate 40% above the national average.

While its common knowledge that tobacco use increases the risk of cancer, under half of Americans are aware that even low amounts of alcohol use are a leading preventable cause of at least seven types of cancer. They were separated about a year. Everything was at issue. The big fight was over the kids. She felt she had to respond to every disturbing email and text.
